From Interest to Impact in Doula Work
Many of our students begin with curiosity and grow into confident care providers. Our full spectrum doula training supports that transformation across fertility, birth, postpartum, and loss. Through our doula scholarship program, we make this path more accessible.
A Life Transformed Through Motherhood
Hello, my name is Devinae Glover, and I am proud to call Phoenix, Arizona my home. My journey into motherhood began in 2021 when I gave birth to my baby boy. Today, that tiny newborn is a spirited and curious four-year-old who continues to teach me new lessons every single day. Becoming a mother completely reshaped the way I view life, work, and my sense of purpose. Although I am currently raising my son as a single mother, I wouldn’t trade the peace and strength I have gained from this experience for anything in the world.
Building Strength Through Independence and Family Support
I first moved to Arizona by myself in 2018, seeking a fresh start and an opportunity to grow on my own. When my son was born a few years later, my mom made the decision to move here as well. Since then, it has really just been the two of us building a small but strong support system in our community. Having that close bond with my mom while raising my son has been both grounding and empowering, as we continue to support each other and navigate life together.
Discovering Birthwork During Pregnancy
My introduction to the world of birthwork began while I was pregnant. Like many new mothers, I wanted the best possible care for myself and my baby, and that’s when I discovered doulas and midwives. I knew right away that this type of support was exactly what I wanted during my pregnancy and birth journey. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to afford a doula at that time. However, I was able to work with a midwife, and that experience opened my eyes to how valuable compassionate, holistic, and personalized care is during pregnancy and postpartum.
Following a Path Into Childcare and Deeper Purpose
After giving birth, I also rediscovered a deep love for childcare and education. I found myself drawn to Montessori teaching, and soon after, I became a Montessori teacher. I loved supporting children in their natural development and seeing how capable they are when given the right environment. A few years later, I transitioned into nannying, which allowed me to connect with families on a more personal level. At the same time, I started diving deeper into birthwork, doulas, and parenting coaching. The more I explored this path, the clearer it became to me that this is my calling—the work I am meant to do.
Searching for the Right Training Home
For about six months, I researched and searched for a doula training program that truly resonated with me. I wanted something that aligned not only with my morals but also with who I am as a person. That’s when I came across Bebo Mia. What immediately stood out to me was their openness, inclusivity, and commitment to making everyone feel welcome. I hadn’t seen that same level of acceptance in other programs I looked into, and I knew right away that this was the place where I wanted to receive my training.
Overcoming Financial Barriers Through Opportunity
Even after finding the right program, the challenge of affording it still weighed heavily on me. Being a single mom, I knew I had to be mindful of my financial situation. My hope was renewed when I discovered that Bebo Mia offered a scholarship program. I applied, even though I was nervous and unsure if I would be accepted. I remember praying and hoping that I would be chosen. When I finally received the news that I had been awarded the scholarship, I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. I still remember being on the phone with a friend, crying tears of happiness. I even reached out to a woman I had connected with on TikTok—someone who had won the scholarship in the past—to share both my nervousness before applying and later my excitement when I was accepted. That moment truly confirmed for me that I was walking down the right path.
A Deep Commitment to Supporting Young Families
I believe being a birthworker is some of the most fulfilling work a person can do. It brings me joy to work with parents and young children, whether it’s offering advice, emotional support, or simply reminding them that they are not alone. My heart especially goes out to younger parents, because I know firsthand how easy it can be for their needs and voices to be overlooked. As someone who became a mom in her early twenties, I remember how isolating it felt at times. This is why I am passionate about creating safe, supportive, and validating spaces for young mothers and families.
Building a Future Through Doula Work
Once I complete my certification, my goal is to incorporate my doula work into my existing nanny business. For the immediate future, I will continue nannying while I gradually build my doula clientele. Over time, I hope to transition into working as a full-time postpartum doula so that I can dedicate myself completely to supporting families during one of the most transformative times of their lives.
A Calling Shaped by Life and Love
This work is not just a career path for me—it is a calling that has been shaped by my personal experiences, my values, and my love for families and children. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to pursue this dream, and I look forward to continuing to grow, learn, and serve as a supportive presence for parents as they welcome new life into the world.
