Building Confidence Through Doula Training
At bebo mia, our full spectrum doula training helps students build confidence across fertility, birth, postpartum, and loss care. Through our doula scholarship program, we support more people in stepping into this work.
A Childhood Shaped Between Two Worlds
Hello! My name is Jeimy. I was originally born in Costa Rica before moving to Montreal as a child. My childhood was therefore colored by my mixed baggage — my Costa Rican side bringing love for nature, an easygoing philosophy, and appreciation for the simple things, and Montreal’s vibrant mix of cultures, art, and movement.
Grief, Immigration, and the Search for Meaning
My journey in Canada was challenging but overall positive. It was mostly a big adaptation to the culture and climate-wise, but mainly a big maturity step. Since my mother passed away in Costa Rica and my immigration was a way for my father to start a new life with me, coming to Montreal was also a journey of grief. Losing my mother so young opened a space of deep reflection in me. I was always asking questions about life, death, and everything in between. Those questions have guided my choices ever since, making me choose dance as a career since it was the first thing that brought me joy and connection to life.
Building a Life Through Movement and Healing
I studied dance and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance, shortly followed by a massage therapy certificate. For years, I’ve devoted myself to helping others reconnect with their bodies — to release, to feel, and to transform. Through touch, movement, and presence, I’ve witnessed how the body holds stories, emotions, and deep wisdom.
Answering the Call Toward Birthwork
After many years in this field, I now feel a calling to be part of the beautiful rite of passage of birth. My personal life history made me, early on, see the deep importance of the cycles of life, and becoming a birth worker seems like a natural path for me.
Bringing Together Art, Spirituality, and Care
I wish to make my future doula career a mirror of my baggage as an artist and massage therapist — bodywork, art, and spirituality are the keys to my vision. I wish to bring together modern knowledge and the ancient ritual aspects around birth. I truly wish to be part of the passages of life, birth being a beautiful portal I wish to witness. I aspire to create a space appropriate to each person to be able to feel supported and strong through the intense transformational process of giving birth.
Finding Community and Belonging Through Bebomia
When I discovered Bebo Mia, something resonated immediately. The program is beautifully structured, offering practical and professional training while holding space for personal growth and community. What touched me most, though, was the diversity and inclusivity of the Bebo Mia community. It feels like a place where people from many different backgrounds come together to learn, share, and bloom. That sense of belonging — of being part of a collective with shared values — really called to me.
A Scholarship Supporting a New Chapter
Receiving the Bebo Mia scholarship is such a gift. It allows me to take this next step in my vocation — to bring together everything I’ve learned from dance, massage therapy, and spiritual practice, and to channel it into birth work. This scholarship is also offering me the financial support I need now more than ever, during a vulnerable time of transition — as I reorganize my life after the end of a long marriage and learn to care for myself on my own.
Envisioning a Space for Connection and Empowerment
After completing the program, I dream of creating a space that bridges art, bodywork, and birth. I envision a practice where expectant parents can prepare for birth through movement, breath, and self-connection — a space that honours each person’s unique rhythm and story. Eventually, I’d love to collaborate with other healers and create workshops that combine massage, dance, and doula support, helping people feel grounded and empowered during pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
Returning Home Through Birthwork
I feel grateful for every step that has led me here — from my roots in Costa Rica to my artistic life in Montreal, from loss to healing, from movement to motherhood’s threshold. Becoming a doula feels like returning home to the essence of what has always guided me: honouring the body, trusting the cycles, and holding space for transformation.
Stepping Into a Heart-Centered Community
Thank you, Bebo Mia, for opening this new chapter and welcoming me into such a heart-centered community. I can’t wait to learn, grow, and serve alongside all of you.
