Getting Ready for Vday with Aromatherapy

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, no doubt many of you are gearing up to plan the perfect date night. If you’re a parent, this might look something like a Jedi knight willing your children to sleep then morphing into Harry Potter, throwing on your cloak of invisibility and hightailing it out of the room to grab a quickie before someone wakes up asking for milk and a story about a time-traveling unicorn. If you’re single, it might involve mood lighting, a couple batteries and some wine ice cream (did ya’ll know that was a thing…because I sure didn’t?!). In any case, whether you are sharing the day with your partner for life, your whole family, a fling, or yourself, essential oils can add some spice to your night and have you crooning that 90’s classic, “I Wanna Sex You Up”, in no time! Essential oils have been used throughout history to create ambiance, relieve emotional stress, provide energy and even increase libido.

The oils to use to get you in the mood:

Here are some fabulous ideas to help you get it on this February 14th, and as always, please be safe when using essential oils: check with an expert, use as directed, and always use high quality oils that are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade.

Blend an Aphrodisiac Massage Oil

There are lots of great recipes for blends that help to ignite passion. Here is one of my personal favorites: Blend ¼ cup Fractionated Coconut Oil with 2 drops Geranium essential oil, 3 drops Sandalwood essential oil, 2 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil and 3 drops Clary Sage essential oil.

This blend will help to increase arousal and energetic connection. Take care not to use this blend on or near the sex organs. A back or neck massage is a great place for this blend. Do NOT use this blend on women who are pregnant, as it may stimulate contractions.

Create a Blend for Diffusion

This is great if you aren’t into having oils massaged on your body or if you are pregnant or nursing. Diffusion is a safe way for everyone to experience the effects of essential oils, and it’s especially helpful because multiple people can experience the benefits at one time. Here is an aphrodisiac blend that will get love in the air. Place 1 drop each of the following in your favorite diffuser: White Fir, Cinnamon, Patchouli, Rosemary, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang.

Add a drop or two to a Bubble Bath

Some great oils to use to enhance the romance in a nice, steamy bath are Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang & Patchouli.

 Spray your Sheets

Add about 5 drops each of Sandalwood and Bergamot, to 1 drops each of Ginger, Lime and Ylang Ylang, then fill the spray bottle with water to create a sensual linen spray to mist on your sheets before you get between them. This particular blend is great for women who may be experiencing a drop in sex drive due to hormonal imbalance.

Make some Delicious Chocolates

What goes better with Valentine’s Day than chocolate? For that matter, what goes better with ANYTHING than chocolate? That’s right…nothing. Chocolate rocks, so ahead and get creative…make some homemade chocolates with essential oils! You can get some chocolate molds, or just dip some strawberries/pretzels/etc. Just grab your favorite melting chocolate (I personally LOVE “Enjoy Life” brand vegan/gluten free chocolate chips) and add 1 drop per cup of melted chocolate. Some of my favorite oils to use for this are: Peppermint (don’t use if your breastfeeding, ladies!), Wild Orange, and Cinnamon. Be sure, especially when adding essential oils to food, that you use sparingly (a little goes a LONG way) and that you are using high quality, Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils so that you know they are safe to ingest.

Best Oils for Intimacy

Here are my top recommendations for essential oils that tap into specific issues surrounding intimacy:

Jasmine – This oil enhances mood, libido and produces a sense of euphoria. This oil, along with Clary Sage, is great for removing emotional blocks for those who may have suffered sexual trauma in the past.

Ylang Ylang – This oil works the endocrine system and supports healthy sexual function. This oil, combined with Clary Sage and Cinnamon is a wonderful aid for impotence and other men’s sexual health issues.

Patchouli – This oil support healthy circulation, can raise body temperature, is a relaxant and enhances your mood.

Clary Sage – This oil is a well-known hormone balancer; it supports a healthy endocrine system for both men and women and enhances libido. Please be aware that women who are pregnant should not use Clary Sage, because it may stimulate the uterus to contract.

Bergamot – This oil lifts negativity, promotes confidence, provides a calming effect and enhances moods, as well as balancing hormones

AromaTouch Massage Blend – This blend is wonderful for relaxation, easing tension and promoting circulation. Women who are nursing should not use this blend topically, as it contains peppermint and could lower breastmilk supply.

Passion Inspiring Blend – This oil, as it states, helps to ignite passion and feelings of daring, excitement and joy.

Any romantic relationship is enhanced and aided by a healthy, loving, supportive and nurturing intimate relationship that includes a sexual component. Many times, because of past sexual trauma and experiences, current relationship or life stressors, pregnancy or recovery from pregnancy, or other physical and emotional health issues, intimacy for both men and women can be put on hold or face challenges. Essential oils can provide a natural way to overcome some of these hurdles, both in your relationship and on a personal level, to help you to get in the mood and experience intimacy in a renewed way. Don’t forget to be SAFE out there…and please, for the love of all things sparkly…DON’T use essential oils anywhere near your condoms.

It’s bad new bears.

Wishing you all a love-filled and sexy Valentine’s Day!
