The Sneaky Way Childbirth Education Fills Your Doula Client Roster

[wpseo_breadcrumb]

If you have been trying to figure out how to get more doula clients without living on Instagram for hours a day or cold messaging strangers on Facebook, this one is for you.

Because there is a strategy that works so reliably it almost feels like cheating. And most doulas either do not know about it or are not using it on purpose.

Bianca, the founder of bebo mia inc, figured it out by accident.

She was a newer doula, freshly certified as a childbirth educator aka CBE, proudly running her first class with five couples sitting in a circle. Throughout the class she kept saying things like, “Partners, note that positions need to change every thirty minutes or so. If you have a doula, they will take care of that for you.” And a few minutes later with the next tidbit for partners to remember, “If you have a doula, they will handle this.” And again. And again.

She was saying it so the birth mates in the room understood their role. That was it. Honestly, this was not a strategy or a sales pitch. She legitimately was trying to get Birth Mates set up to take care of their loved one because it is such a critical role in the birth space.

At the end of the class she got swarmed.

Every couple in that room who did not already have a doula asked if she was available. She left with three new clients from a three hour class they had already paid her to teach.

It happened again the next class. And then it clicked for her.

Why this works so well for birth doulas to get clients

Think about what is actually happening in a childbirth education class.

You have a room full of people who are already pregnant, already looking for support, and already sitting with you for hours learning from you. They are not scrolling past your content. They are not half-reading a caption. They are present, paying attention, and building trust with you in real time.

By the end of a good childbirth class, most couples are looking at each other thinking some version of “there is absolutely no way we are going to remember all of this in labor.” That is not a failure of your teaching but it’s actually the moment they realize what a doula is for.

So many people don’t fully understand the role of a doula, and this makes it make sense for them.

And the best part, you do not have to sell anything – yuck, who likes doing that?! You just teach well, flag things that the birth partner needs to do, and the rest takes care of itself.

Through years of training students in our Childbirth Educator Certification, we have discovered that 30% to 50% of CBE students go on to hire their instructor as their doula. That means your CBE clients pay you once for the teaching and then again, often multiple times, for doula care.

It also solves the on-call exhaustion problem

Here is the other thing nobody talks about enough and we love highlighting here at bebo mia inc…

If your only income stream as a birth doula is attending births, your income is completely tied to your availability and your body. More money means more births. More births means more missed nights of sleep, more unpredictability, more of your nervous system on high alert.

Childbirth education (CBE) gives you income that is scheduled, predictable, and completely within your control. You decide when you teach. You decide how many people are in the class. You decide what you charge, and the range is genuinely solid, anywhere from $300 to $1,000 or more per class depending on how you structure it.

It is not passive income in the fantasy sense of that phrase. But it is income you can plan around, which for most doulas is actually more valuable.

The done-for-you part matters more than it sounds

One of the things that stops doulas from adding childbirth education to their practice is the idea of building a curriculum from scratch. We found that that was a real barrier. Creating educational content that is evidence-based, engaging, and actually teaches adults well takes a long time and a lot of trial and error.

The bebo mia Childbirth Educator Certification comes with a done-for-you curriculum, worksheets, and everything you need to walk into your first class without spending months building materials. One of our graduates launched her first class twenty days after starting the course. That kind of timeline is only possible when you are not starting from zero.

The program covers everything from the fear-tension-pain cycle and hormones of birth to queer care, newborn care, lactation prep, and how adults actually learn. It also walks you through how to market your classes, price them, and eventually build digital offerings if you want to extend your reach beyond in-person teaching.

And it is certified for life with no hidden fees or recertification costs, which if you have ever dealt with the ongoing fee model of other programs, you already know how much that matters.

This is a pink spoon offer in the best possible way

You know that feeling at an ice cream shop when you get up to the glass covered in fingerprints and nose prints at low levels and stare into the lit up cooler filled with bright circles of frozen joy and you panic a little? You lean back reading the flavor tags, trying to match them to the buckets. Then you spot the little pink spoons in a cup on the counter next to the bin marked “dirty spoons” and you know you are cool to taste test. After trying everything from cherry choco crunch to lemon rosemary sorbet, you land on your usual and walk out the door.

Why does a five dollar ice cream purchase feel like it requires that much careful consideration? No idea. But it does.

Now imagine the pressure when someone is choosing a doula. A person who will be present for one of the most intimate, intense, vulnerable moments of their life. Someone they are going to trust with their body and their birth.

A childbirth education class is your pink spoon.

They got to try before they buy. And you got paid while it happened.

It is lower in cost than a full doula package, which means families who are still on the fence about hiring a doula will often say yes to an affordable CBE class first. And then they spend three hours (or 2 days or however long your class is) with you, in person, learning things that genuinely matter to them.

By the time that class ends, you are not a stranger on the internet. You are the person who helped them understand birth.

That is a completely different sales conversation, except it does not feel like a sales conversation at all.

If you are ready to add a CBE certification to your practice

The program is currently half price for the first 30 people who enroll using the code CBE50, bringing it down to $339.50 from $679.

And if you finish your certification and still feel unsure about launching, Bianca will personally get on a call with you to help you activate your services and figure out your pricing. That is not a chatbot. That is the actual founder of bebo mia.

You can grab your spot here.

Because teaching is not a distraction from your doula business. For a lot of doulas, it turns out to be the engine that runs the whole thing.
