Why Online Doula Training Is Opening Doors
We started our doula scholarship program because access matters. At bebo mia, we offer full spectrum doula training that prepares students for fertility, birth, postpartum, and loss work, all within a live, online classroom. With over $500,000 in doula awards and scholarships distributed, we are committed to expanding who gets to become a doula. This post highlights one of our scholarship recipients and their journey into doula training and certification.
I’m a neurodivergent member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community who is currently navigating a brand-new city and building a life from the ground up while expecting my first child! It’s been a lot, but it’s also been empowering and full of growth.
Where I Come From
Originally from a small town thousands of kilometers away, I was raised by a tough family—both physically and mentally, and often to a fault—but given the circumstances, almost admirable. In a place where hard times were universal and plentiful, the value of resilience and community was instilled in me early.
Their strength, as well as their right and wrong doings, have shaped me in countless ways, and I carry that with me every day.
Discovering the Path to Doula Work
I didn’t always know I wanted to be a doula, but looking back, it makes perfect sense. Growing up, I was always the one people turned to for support. I offered empathy, calm, and a listening ear, even when surrounded by chaos—often caused by the very people asking for help.
The Meaning of Support
Through those experiences, I learned the value of emotional support, patience, and understanding. These qualities naturally carried into my interest in birthwork and supporting people during significant life transitions.
Why This Scholarship Matters
Receiving this scholarship means the world to me. It opens doors that may have otherwise been difficult to access and allows me to pursue training that aligns deeply with my values and the work I want to do in my community.
Looking Ahead
As I prepare for the arrival of my own child, I’m also preparing to step into a new role supporting other families. This path feels meaningful, empowering, and aligned with the kind of support I want to bring into the world.
