Building Confidence Through Doula Training

At bebo mia, our full spectrum doula training helps students build confidence across fertility, birth, postpartum, and loss care. Through our doula scholarship program, we support more people in stepping into this work.

A Passion Rooted in Health and Wellness

My name is Yasmin and I love anything related to health and wellness. My first exposure was working in boutique fitness, including spin, yoga, barre, and pilates. Surrounding myself in these environments allowed me to embark on a journey of health and wellness. From there wellness influenced my interests across to other parts of my life. My love of cooking stemmed from wanting to nourish my body correctly and it extended onto my loved ones. I find a lot of purpose and happiness when feeding those around me.

Choosing a New Path and Following a Dream

Having the opportunity to win a scholarship to train as a birth worker has allowed me the support to go after dreams I didn’t think were possible. I’m a first generation American who started off with what I thought was my path. I went to college, graduated with my bachelors degree, and got a job shortly upon graduating. My reality was altered like many others once 2020 happened. I, like many, got furloughed from my position and as a result questioned everything. That pause in time resulted in a series of life changing events where my priorities in life shifted and I began to want to follow a career that felt more connected to me. I wanted the scholarship because I truly believe becoming a certified birth worker is the first step in normalising providing this type of assistance that most families don’t have access to.

Finding Inspiration in the Bebomia Community

I really love the community that has been built and that the person who started the company was a woman who couldn’t find the solutions to her needs and decided to embark on creating that vision.

The historical significance of doulas and midwives has been prevalent throughout all of history. I want to connect with my humanity and provide this meaningful work for families looking to grow and to eventually see a world where jobs like this become normalized again and are provided, even essential, in any birth planning setting.

Turning Encouragement Into a New Career

Due to assisting some loved ones and family members in the past as an act of love, they in return gave me the confidence and motivation to want to seek certification. Those conversations led me to want to take things more seriously and seek furthering my education and starting this new career path.

I plan on getting certified, gaining experience, and opening my own business where I can provide these services for people outside of my circle. Additionally, I want to connect with nonprofits in my community that can help leverage my work and provide funding for my services to be able to provide this important work for underprivileged families.
