Hey! My name is Brittney Roundtree, a Body Liberator award scholarship holder. I’m a 29-year-old mom of a dinosaur loving 5-year-old kiddo. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, where my birth work journey started and its currently thriving. I started my work as a doula after the birth of my son. I felt as if my needs were dismissed and that my doctor ignored me and any concerns I had. After his birth, I knew I wanted to help other birthing bodies to avoid feeling that way. I was an educator prior to/ during my time as a doula. I wanted this scholarship to have a chance to support birthing bodies with bodies like mine that often deal with stigmas placed on them. I’ve been fat most of my life and I’ve dealt with the stares and comments made by medical professionals for being a fat woman. Our bodies are magical and can do anything no matter the size. I want to be able to destigmatize the myths about fat bodies and help my families to advocate for themselves. I know that through my training with Bebo Mia and their amazing community, I can now work to achieve this. Bebo Mia has cultivated such a welcoming and connected community and I can’t wait to become a part of it.  My plan after completing this training is to get restarted in my passion for doula work and service families in my community through my city’s health department.
