A Journey Into Birthwork: Embracing My Calling With Bebo Mia

[wpseo_breadcrumb]

Hey everyone!

I’m beyond excited to share that I’ve been awarded a full scholarship for Doula Training with Bebo Mia! 🎉 I still can’t believe it. It’s such an amazing opportunity, and I’m grateful for the chance to learn from a community that truly aligns with my values.

A little about me: I’m a proud mother of three wonderful toddlers, and my journey through motherhood has been full of surprises, joys, and, of course, challenges. I’m also a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner and Human Design Expert. I’m originally from Buffalo, NY currently living in a multi-generational home with my family in Glen Burnie, MD. I come from a close-knit community, where supporting one another is at the heart of everything we do. It’s that sense of community and connection that has fueled my passion for birthwork.

Why I Applied for the Scholarship

So, why did I apply for the Bebo Mia scholarship? Honestly, I’ve been feeling a pull toward this path for quite some time now. As a mom who has gone through my own ups and downs during pregnancy and childbirth, I realized that so many women, especially those from marginalized communities, don’t always get the support they need during this critical time. I want to change that.

Doula work feels like a natural extension of who I am and what I stand for. It’s about being present, compassionate, and informed so that birthing people can feel empowered in their experience. The scholarship offered me the opportunity to receive top-tier training without the financial burden, which is huge for me as a single mom trying to juggle it all.

Why Bebo Mia?

When I sat down to process another pivot and transformation in my life and business, Bebo Mia came into my life as an answered prayer. It wasn’t just the comprehensive curriculum that attracted me—it was the community. I’ve always believed in the power of women supporting women, and Bebo Mia embodies that on every level. They don’t just teach you how to be a doula; they teach you how to run a sustainable birth business, how to take care of yourself in the process, and how to give back to your community.

Bebo Mia’s commitment to inclusion and diversity also deeply resonated with me. As a woman of color, I want to ensure that my work helps bridge the gap in maternal health disparities. The statistics are alarming, and women in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities often face higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth. Bebo Mia understands this and actively works to make birthwork accessible and equitable. Being a part of a community that recognizes and actively fights against these inequalities is so important to me.

Why Birthwork?

Becoming a birthworker isn’t just about a career for me; it’s about fulfilling a purpose. I want to be a source of comfort, information, and empowerment for women and birthing people during one of the most transformative moments of their lives. Having gone through multiple pregnancies and being a miracle child myself, I understand firsthand how vulnerable and overwhelming this time can be. I also know how empowering it feels when you have the right support.

I want to be that support for others. Whether it’s offering emotional guidance, advocating for their needs, or simply holding space for them during labor, I’m ready to make a difference. Birth is such a sacred and powerful experience, and I believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, respected, and cared for during that process.

My Business Plans

Once I complete my training with Bebo Mia, I plan to build a birthwork practice that caters to women in my local community as well as those who are often overlooked in the broader maternal health system. My goal is to offer not only doula services but also childbirth education, postpartum care, sex education, cleaning, meal planning support, and holistic healing services. I’m also passionate about integrating the principles of Human Design and holistic health into my practice, offering a truly personalized and transformative experience for every client.

I also envision creating a space where birthing people can come together to share their stories, learn, and support one another. Community is everything, and I want to build a business that reflects that—whether it’s through workshops, support groups, or just being available when someone needs a listening ear.

In the long run, I hope to expand my practice to include other birthworkers, offering mentorship and collaboration opportunities. I’m dreaming big, but with the foundation that Bebo Mia is giving me, I know it’s all possible.

A Big Thank You!

I want to take a moment to thank Bebo Mia again for this incredible opportunity. This scholarship is opening so many doors for me, and I’m excited to give back by offering my skills and services to my community. This is just the beginning, and I’m ready to embrace all that’s to come. Thank you for reading a bit about my journey. I hope this inspires anyone out there who feels the call to birthwork but isn’t sure where to start. Sometimes all it takes is believing in yourself and following that inner pull.

And, of course, I’ll be sharing more as I move through the training and start building my business—stay tuned!

Much love,
