Creating Safe Spaces for Mothers: Sai Ossai’s Journey Into Postpartum Care

Making Birth Work More Accessible

Birth work benefits from diverse voices, lived experiences, and compassionate caregivers. Our doula scholarship program helps remove financial barriers so more students can receive comprehensive training and serve their communities with confidence.

Rooted in Family, Community, and Compassion

I’m Sai, a postpartum doula, infant care specialist, and mama of soon to be four. My life is rooted in family, community, and showing up for women during some of their most vulnerable and transformative moments. I serve families in the Raleigh Durham area, and much of my work centers around supporting moms who are often overlooked, overwhelmed, or trying to hold everything together on their own.

Growing a Calling Into a Sustainable Career

I applied for this scholarship because I have been doing this work from the heart for a long time, and I am ready to grow, refine my skills, and step into this work in a more sustainable way. I have seen firsthand how a lack of support can impact a mother’s mental health, confidence, and overall well being, and I want to be part of changing that story.

What draws me to bebo mia is the community. The way you center inclusivity, advocacy, and evidence based support really resonates with me. I am not just looking for training, I am looking to be in a space with people who understand both the weight and the beauty of this work, and who are committed to supporting families in a meaningful way.

Building a Future Where Every Mother Feels Supported

Being a birthworker, to me, is about creating safe spaces. It is about making sure a mother feels seen, heard, and cared for, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. It is the kind of support I needed at times in my own journey, and now I feel called to be that for others.

After the program, I plan to continue growing my business and expanding the support I offer through my organization, She is Loved. My goal is to provide accessible postpartum care, education, and resources, especially for minority women and families who may not otherwise have access to this kind of support. I also plan to build out workshops, community based programs, and partnerships with organizations and workplaces to bring postpartum wellness into more spaces.

This is not just work for me, it is purpose, and I am ready to keep growing in it.
