What Led Me to Doula Certification

At bebo mia, our mission is to train doulas who are prepared for the full reality of this work. Our online doula training covers fertility, birth, postpartum, and loss, and supports students in becoming full spectrum doulas. We have awarded more than $500,000 in doula scholarships and doula awards to expand access to doula certification. This blog shares the story of one of our scholarship recipients.

My name is Janai Akerele-Orr, and I’m incredibly grateful to be a recipient of the bebo mia scholarship as I begin this path toward becoming a doula.

Early Inspiration

I’ve always felt drawn to work that centers people, care, and connection. Over time, I began to explore ways that I could support families during some of their most important life moments.

Discovering Doula Work

When I discovered the role of doulas, it immediately resonated with me. The idea of providing emotional, informational, and physical support during pregnancy and birth felt like meaningful and impactful work.

Why This Path Matters

Birth is one of the most transformative experiences in a person’s life, and having the right support can make all the difference. I feel honored by the opportunity to contribute to that support system.

What the Scholarship Means

Receiving the bebo mia scholarship allows me to pursue training that will equip me with the tools needed to support families in an informed and compassionate way.

I’m excited to continue learning and developing my skills so that I can show up for families with confidence, care, and respect.
