🎊 Celebrating Black History Month 🎊 The late bell 🎊 Celebrating Black History Month 🎊

The late bell hooks was a highly celebrated academic and activist whose work has been foundational in breaking down barriers around race, gender, sexuality and class. She wrote groundbreaking books and poems about oppression, feminism, Black culture and politics. bell was a huge advocate for literacy and her influence on education and culture will live on forever.

Madam C.J. Walker was the first woman of ANY race to become a self-made millionaire. She founded the Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company and created her own line of cosmetics and hair care products for Black omen, inspired by her own frustrations with her scalp and skin. She was a philanthropist and activist, spreading her wealth and creating safe social spaces for Black Americans.

Margaret Charles Smith was a Black midwife, who successfully delivered 3000+ babies in her career. She began delivering babies before midwives were considered “official” in Alabama, and continued to do so even when traditional midwifery was outlawed in the 1970s. She worked primarily with those who could not afford doctors or other midwives, suffering from poverty and malnourishment. In 2010 Margaret was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame.

Not all doula trainings are actually safe to choos Not all doula trainings are actually safe to choose.

And we’re not going to dance around that.

We don’t just mean emotionally safe or values aligned.

We mean logistically, financially, and realistically safe for your actual life.
Some trainings look solid on the surface. Big name. Long history. Lots of buzz.

Then you’re inside and realize the time commitment is bigger than promised.

The costs keep stacking.
The content is rushed.
You finish with a certificate and still feel wildly unprepared.

Recently, experienced doulas were talking about a very well known training whose graduates were showing up in L&D ‘like bulls in a china shop’. Not because those doulas failed. Because they were failed.

A doula training should not require you to gamble your income, your childcare, your health, or your stability just to see if this work fits. And it should not leave you feeling like you need three more courses before you can support a family well.

When we say a training is safe, we mean this:
It fits real life
It allows flexibility and questions
It teaches practical skills, not just theory
It prepares you clearly for what doulas actually do

Safe does not mean easy.

It means the training respects your life and sets you up to do this work well.

We have something big launching tomorrow and you’re going to want the details.

Comment BIRTHDOULA and we’ll send you the info and bonuses first.

this list didn’t come from theory. it came from do this list didn’t come from theory. it came from doing the work while living a real life.

so many people stay stuck in the “i want to be a doula” place because they think it requires a huge, risky leap.
quitting jobs.
rearranging everything.
waiting for more time, more money, more space.

but doula work doesn’t actually start that way.

it starts with learning what this work really asks of you and honesty about what fits your life and what doesn’t.

you don’t need to have everything figured out to begin.

you don’t need to decide how big or small this becomes.

you don’t need to blow up your life to take a first step.

if this list made you pause, stay close…. something important is coming in 2 sleeps. xo
Advocacy isn’t disruption for the sake of it. It’s Advocacy isn’t disruption for the sake of it. It’s care in action... especially when silence would cause harm.

It's time to take the next step.

Thanks for this beautiful video 🥹 @itsnotkass
bianca here... the pull toward doula work almost bianca here...

the pull toward doula work almost never shows up when life is calm. it shows up when something feels wrong.

for me, it hit when i was a week postpartum. angry about my birth. unsafe in my relationship. broke. exhausted. nothing about my life felt ready or stable.

and that’s when it landed. loud.
i want to change birth and postpartum care.

i never want anyone to feel this alone.

i want to be a doula.

this wasn’t a gentle nudge. it was a bullhorn.

i didn’t have more time or energy. i had a racing mind at 3am, nursing my baby, knowing things had to be different for me and for my daughter, gray.

in the 18 years since, i’ve seen this over and over. people waiting for life to slow down before they act.

for most people, it doesn’t.

the pull either keeps tapping you, or you learn to live with the discomfort.

if you’re at a crossroads, i feel it with you. ❤️
