Hello, lovely readers! My name is Sara, and I am thrilled to share with you the next chapter of my journey. A decade ago, I was a young mother facing the uncertainties of unexpected motherhood, navigating a world filled with challenges. My partner and I were just starting our family, at the very beginning of gaining higher education but not yet on a clear plan. We worked tirelessly to provide for our newborn daughter, Claire. Little did I know that this journey would ignite a passion within me that would shape my future in ways I never imagined.
The Desire to Support Others
Our family has always been a close-knit unit, with our daughter at the center of our lives. As I embraced the role of motherhood, I sought supports within my community such as Brighter Futures who provided prenatal education, guidance and playgroups for mamas & their littles. My journey began as a participant which developed into a volunteer “Resource Mother,” but soon I transitioned to a Program Assistant. This experience opened my eyes to the needs of families during their most vulnerable moments. Learning about my daughter’s neurodivergence further fueled my desire to grow and acquire the knowledge necessary to support others effectively.
Getting the Scholarship
Reflecting on my experiences, I see how pivotal they have been in shaping my aspirations. Recently, I was blessed to receive the “Bebo Mia Be Brave” scholarship, presenting an opportunity that represents a chance to pursue my goals, which once felt unattainable. Financial stability has often seemed just out of reach, especially while balancing a part-time job to care for Claire and dedicating myself to a role that demands more than I can give. This scholarship alleviates financial pressures, allowing me to focus on my family, community, & for once, Me! Pursuing my passion uplifts my spirit, relieving stress, improving mental health and giving hope to create a healthier work-life balance.
“Being a Doula is not just a job; it’s a calling”
Becoming a doula was not a path I envisioned for myself fifteen years ago, yet it has now become a significant part of my thoughts and dreams. The challenges I faced during my own pregnancy and motherhood journey illuminated the immense need for compassionate birth support. I believe this line of work, that being a doula is not just a job; it’s a calling. My life experiences have equipped me with skills and insights that I am eager to share with others navigating their own birth journeys.
About Bebo Mia
I am particularly excited about Bebo Mia’s training program, which represents a comprehensive and transparent approach to education. The engaging classes and supportive community proves to be a learning experience that aligns with my goals of continuous growth and professional excellence. The credibility of their certification and its global recognition are also powerful motivators for me. They are here to provide us all with the utmost support, inclusiveness & open, safe space to ask questions and actually learn in a positive manner. I look forward to contributing to a community that shares my passion for caregiving and empowerment.
The importance of Knowledge in Birthwork
The training thus far has opened my eyes to other possibilities and interests than plans I had originally thought of for my future after certification. I’m excited to learn weed through the options and find which Ines suit my soul best. Maybe it will be my original, maybe it will come out of left field! Either way I’m presented with the options & knowledge! Knowledge is always useful because birthwork is not linear. There are ups and downs with everyone’s unique journey. The more you know, the better care you can provide.
Envisioning a Future of Committed Support
My vision for the future involves launching my own business. While still early, i envision it being called – “Clarity: Birth Journey Services,” named in honor of my daughter Claire. This name reflects my commitment to supporting maternal and infant mental health, offering a range of services from prenatal education to postpartum support. My goal is to create a nurturing environment where families feel safe, supported, and empowered during their unique journeys.
In addition to traditional doula services, I plan to offer childbirth photography, lactation support, and support for creating a simplified home. My holistic approach emphasizes the importance of creating a space where families can bond with their newborns while receiving the guidance they need. I envision a welcoming center that feels like home, a place for parents to gather for support and education, fostering meaningful connections and a sense of community.
Aspiring to Provide Support for Mental Health and Well-being
Ultimately, my aspiration is to build a network of support services prioritizing mental health and well-being. I want to create an atmosphere where questions are welcomed, and unexpected challenges can be navigated together. With the scholarship, I can take the next step in my journey, ensuring that I am equipped to serve my community in the best way possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my evolving journey. I hope to inspire others through my experiences and contribute positively to the birth work field. Together, let’s embrace the beauty of this journey and create lasting connections within our communities. Stay tuned for more updates as I embark on this exciting new chapter!
