Education Can Change the Course of a Career
Many future doulas know they are called to this work long before they begin training. Access to education is often the missing piece. Through our doula scholarship program, bebo mia helps students gain the knowledge and confidence to begin supporting families in meaningful ways.
A Creative Spirit Guided by Healing and Connection
Hi, this is Clove! I am training to be a birth worker with Bebo Mia. I am a winner of the March 2026 scholarship award. When I received the notice that I was accepted into the program, I started celebrating right then and there. I am looking forward to learning about supporting a birth through the maternal support practitioner program. After graduation you will find me networking with the birth community of Homer AK, and connecting virtually across Alaska.
So let’s jump in with a little bit about me and how I was drawn into birthwork.
I am interested in the mind-body connection, advancing my education, and practicing art in many forms. My favorites are painting, photography, intuitive dance, imagination, and writing. Recently, I have started recording music as well. Healing the collective womb, and nurturing the raw, wild, whole, feminine on our planet is important to me.
Discovering Birthwork Through Holistic Healing
Health and wellbeing practices are very familiar to me since I turned to whole person health care during the chronic illness which I have lived with for over ten years. Over time, I have pieced together valuable holistic resources I can access to heal. I plan to incorporate these holistic resources and skills into my practice as a doula, piecing together a web of information and in person resources that support birth.
There are limitations to what we have been told about health, and likewise there are limitations to what we have been told about birth. There are gaps in the medical system which need to be filled with complimentary outside knowledge and devoted professionals. I joined Bebo Mia to learn proven ways to support birthers through one of the most powerful tasks in humanity.
Choosing Bebomia for Inclusive, Lifelong Support
Bebo Mia is a great resource for anyone who wants to train in birth work. They are on your side as a practicing doula because the educational founder, Bianca Sprague, was/is a birth worker herself. I wanted to train with Bebo Mia for two reasons. One, because their program is inclusive and prepares doulas to support parents from any gender or background with informed and inclusive care. Two, because their program is centered around real world doula support such as: ongoing education, business support, online peer group, and a one-time certification fee.
Empowering Families Through Education and Advocacy
After graduating from the maternal support practitioner program at Bebo Mia, I plan to offer educational resources to parents and specifically to the birthing parent. I hope to offer parents insight into standard care while reminding them of their own personal power, encouraging them to put their unique needs front and center during a birth. I hope my clients feel honored in their unique desires for the birth and trust their instincts.
My future goal as a practicing doula is confident parents who are comfortable with their understanding of birth protocols and ready to give active consent if any intervention is necessary. I plan to support birthers in remembering their body and its natural capabilities. I hope to educate the birthing parent and connect them to postpartum recovery resources.
Empowered birth experiences are core to the mother-child bond and to a flourishing society. A career at the intersection of community education, empowered healthcare choices, and more support for people with wombs doing brave things… this drew me in! The work I am choosing to enter by becoming a certified doula is at the roots of humanity and I am beyond excited to see what the future holds.
