There’s this moment that every doula business owner hits, where you’re sitting with your laptop open, staring at your calendar, and realizing… there’s not a lot happening in your business. You know, like people handing your payments for your awesome services.
You’ve done the trainings. You’ve poured your heart into your website. You’ve been showing up online… but mostly just shouting into the void. The phone isn’t ringing.
And it’s not because you’re not good at what you do. You are.
It’s because no one taught you the part that comes after certification… the part about finding and keeping clients.
That’s where most doulas get stuck. And the majority give up and that is flippin’ heartbreaking. We want all of you who fell in love with doula work, to stick with it and support all the families that need your help!
The Doula Problem Nobody Talks About
When you start your doula business, you think the hard part will be learning the skills… mastering comfort measures, understanding birth physiology, knowing how to navigate hospital systems, becoming an infant feeding and sleeping expert.
But the truth?
The hard part is marketing those skills in a way that feels natural and aligned.
Because the world has told you that marketing means sales funnels, hashtags, and constant posting, and that’s not what you signed up for. You want to help people, not hustle for likes.
That’s why we built the Get More Clients Challenge, a 5-day accelerator designed just for doulas and reproductive health professionals who are ready to book clients without burnout or gimmicks.
So, what actually works? Here’s what we’ve learned after training thousands of doulas across 52 countries.
1. People Don’t Buy Your Hours. They Buy the Transformation
When someone hires a doula, they’re not thinking, “I want three prenatal visits and a birth plan review.”
They’re thinking, “I don’t want to feel scared. I don’t want to feel alone. I don’t want an episiotomy. I don’t want my partner to see my poop. I don’t want an emergency c-section. I don’t want to die in birth. I don’t want my Mother in Law to stay with me. I want to know I can do this.” (Maybe not all of those, but for sure some or most of that list!
That’s what they’re paying for. The feeling of safety. The calm in the chaos. The sense that someone truly sees them. That their problems are not weird or silly or trivial.
When your business communicates that, clients find you.
The doulas who thrive are the ones who can explain their work in plain, emotional language. Instead of leading with your list of services, lead with the problem you solve and the change you create.
Inside the Get More Clients Challenge, this is exactly what we start with, defining your client’s core need and shaping your message so it lands every time.
2. Social Media Isn’t the Enemy… But It’s Not the Strategy
Let’s be honest: social media can feel like a trap. You’re told you have to post every day, keep up with trends, and master video editing just to stay visible.
But here’s the truth: it’s not about posting more. It’s about posting intentionally.
Your social media should act like a window, people should be able to glance in and instantly understand what you do, who you serve, and how they can work with you.
Think of your social media as a message board for people to get who you are and what is happening. You are competing with content creators and that is a battle you are not going to win.
It just needs to be you… clear, consistent, and real.
We’ll teach you how to clean up your online presence, create content that connects, and stop wasting hours shouting into the algorithm. You’ll learn how to make your social media work for you, not the other way around.
3. You Need a Pink Spoon
If you’ve ever stopped by an ice cream shop, you’ve had a pink spoon, that little taste before you buy the full scoop.
In business, that’s your free offer. A small, valuable piece of what you do that lets potential clients experience your magic before they commit.
It could be a birth checklist, a postpartum guide, or a five-minute meditation. There are lots of formats that you can connect with your dream clients with.
Your pink spoon should leave people thinking, I need more of this.
When you create something that genuinely helps people, it builds trust and keeps your audience engaged between client bookings. And once you have that system running smoothly, you’ll start attracting clients on autopilot.
4. Your Website Should Feel Like a Welcome Mat, Not a Résumé
Too many doulas treat their websites like business cards: neat, professional, and… flat.
But your website is there to impress and to connect.
People buy from the person who makes them feel safe.
That means your copy should sound like you, not like a corporate brochure. It should tell stories, use client language, and make booking you the obvious next step.
During the challenge, we’ll help you take your existing site (or build one from scratch) and turn it into a home that invites people in. Because your business deserves more than a placeholder page.
Also, you do not need a website, if it is the difference between you getting out there or not, just get out there!
5. Your Network Is Gold (and You’re Probably Ignoring It)
We see this all the time, doulas with hundreds of warm leads in their lives who never tell anyone what they actually do.
You don’t need to start from zero.
Your next clients might already be following you, sitting in your prenatal yoga class, or chatting in your group chat. They just don’t know you’re available.
Reaching out doesn’t have to feel awkward. It can sound like this:
“Hey! I’m taking new clients this season for birth and postpartum support. If you know anyone expecting, please pass my info along, I’d love to help.”
That’s it. No pressure or pitch, just connecting to your personal community. Tell people who know and trust you already what you do and how you help!
The doulas who master this step fill their calendars the fastest… not because they hustle, but because they finally speak up. We have to reach out, being a business owner is not all ‘build it and they will come’ – super myth, y’all!
What Happens When You Do This Work
We’ve seen doulas double their client lists, book their first paid births in weeks, and finally replace the “side hustle” mindset with confidence.
The shift isn’t just about income (although, you will get more of this!), it’s about ease. It’s about walking into each month knowing you have paying clients and people you are helping, bills covered, and breathing room to grow.
And it’s possible for you too.
If you’re ready to stop guessing and start growing, join us for the Get More Clients Challenge.
It’s five days of strategy, implementation, and community… and yes, it’s the exact process I used to grow my own business when it was just me and a laptop in my living room.
You’ll get templates, scripts, live feedback, and a step-by-step system that you can use again and again to bring in clients when you need them.
It’s $179, starts next month, and fills up fast.
